 Diego Carvalho is a professor at the Department of Production Engineering of the Federal Centre of Technology Education of Rio de Janeiro (CEFET-RJ) and, amongst other research activities, he collaborates with the Central Computing Facility of the Physics Institute of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IF/UFRJ), where he co-ordinates the Network and Grid innovation programme that federates grid and cloud resources from several Brazilian institutions. He graduated in Production Engineering (Escola Politécnica/UFRJ) and holds Master’s and Doctor’s Degrees in Systems Engineering and Computer Science (COPPE/UFRJ). He worked at the DELPHI Experiment (CERN) as a Computer scientist expert in Complex Distributed Real Time Data Acquisition & Control Systems and acted as a project manager in several object oriented software development projects sponsored by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq/Brazil). He also worked at the European Commission Research Programme’s Projects – EELA and EELA-2 as the manager of the European and Latin American cyber infrastructures, then he was invited to act as the Application manager of the GISELA project. His professional experience covers diverse areas such as object oriented design, distributed systems, network engineering, parallel architectures and grid technologies. He is member of IEEE since 2000 and he was part of the team that consolidated the Latin American Public Key Infrastructure, specially helping on the accreditation of the very first Latin American CA (BrGrid from Brazil) by IGTF in July of 2006, only seven months after the start of the EELA project.
