The main research interests of mine are related to the conditions of the possibility of knowledge, especially the general conditions of rational representation of the world. Such concern has been expressed in my academic and professional trajectory. For the first time then, I consciously faced conceptual and applied issues regarding scientific production. The concern thus induced made me decide on the Philosophy Master Degree Program at São Paulo State University, UNESP (1998-2002). It was in this period that I started my research in Biosemiotics. I have continuously studied Charles Peirce’s Semiotics and it has been extremely enlightening to view natural and artificial systems under this theoretical perspective. In 2002 I was invited to be the consultant of the Cognitus Project at the Research Centre of Petrobras (the Brazilian Oil Company). This project had been created to study the complexity of the Solimões River alluvial basin in the Amazon, under the perspective of Semiotics and Gerneral Systems Theory. The project ended in December 2007. The tasks I developed in Cognitus enabled me to more effectively approach the field of data analysis as well as to coordinate the Hypersign group. In my doctorate at the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute - Graduate School and Research in Engineering (COPPE) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (started in 2006 and anticipated to 01-2011), I establishing a research protocol that uses techniques of fuzzy modeling and existential graphs (as proposed by Peirce). Thus, my research were situated fundamentally in the interface between Semiotics, the General Systems Theory and data analysis.
