My name is Kelsey Moody, and I am an undergraduate attending the State University of New York (SUNY), Plattsburgh. I have completed a major in psychology and am currently working to finish a second in biochemistry, with the intent of pursuing an MD/PhD. My research interests localize around regenerative medicine and human aging. I am currently investigating how oxidation of cathepsin D inhibits its ability to degrade tau protein. This research is relevant to Alzheimer's disease (AD) as accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau is prevalent in AD patients and literature review validates our hypothesis, demonstrating that oxidation of other forms of cathepsin inhibit function. In addition to this research project, I also oversee a psychology team which is investigating public skepticism of innovative science. I also serve as Academic Coordinator for SENS Foundation, and am responsible for running SENS Foundation's Academic Initiative (SENSFAI), a student-focused research and development program which promotes research, training, and interest in regenerative medicine.
