My main research is in providing assistance and solutions to challenges with research activity through the use of text mining techniques. As part of this goal my research is focussed upon large scale information retrieval tasks and how they can be improved through the integration of text and data mining tools with natural language processing algorithms. In order to achieve the scalability of solutions this has been investigated alongside distributed computing techniques. To complement the technical development and application provision I am interested in the human factors associated with non-expert use of these tools, in particular the seemingly self imposed barriers built by arts and humanities users. Therefore usability studies and interface development are key issues during the development and evaluation phases of my research.
